Audiologist-Special Clinical Program Manager

The incumbent is responsible for the management of the Tinnitus Program Audiology and Telehealth Program/Expansion within the Loma Linda VA HCS. The incumbent will manage these programs independently. In addition to clinical duties of staff audiologist, incumbent has special clinical program responsibilities, the incumbent will, but not limited to:
Tinnitus Program Management - Manage the progressive tinnitus management (PTM) program by coordinating group instruction, individualized instruction, and personalized tinnitus management with audiology and psychology staff at Loma Linda VA VAMC, Expansion of services at remote sites when directed; Maintain open communication and collaboration with audiologists, audiology externs, psychologists and psychology post-doctorate residents assisting with the PTM class to ensure patients are receiving appropriate tinnitus treatment and follow-up care; Communicate goals, objectives and initiatives to an inter-disciplinary team comprised of audiologists, audiology externs, psychologists, and psychology post-doctorates; as well as guiding the team members; Observe PTM classes taught by rotating psychology post-doctorate residents and audiology externs to ensure continuity of course topic discussion and content. Provide guidence to staff on emerging technologies and evidence based practice.
Telehealth - Responsible for providing telehealth/telemedicine as a direct patient care provider as well as expansion of services when directed; Responsible for oversight of telehealth technicians in geographically separated/remote telehealth clinics; Responsible for managing telehealth clinic grids; Make recommendations on specialized equipment; Liaison between local and national office program telehealth points of contact; Provide in-service to staff regarding evolving changes in technology and practice; Service Liaison between local telehealth coordinators, ISSO, Bio-Med and ITS.
Work Schedule: Monday - Friday 8:00 a. m. to 4:30 p. m. work schedule. Schedule may be adjusted to meet the needs of the service.

Basic Requirements:

  • Citizenship. Citizen of the United States.
  • Education. Master's degree or its equivalent in audiology or hearing science from an accredited college or university is required. "Accredited" means a college or university accredited by a regional accreditation organization and an audiology program recognized by the Accreditation Commission for Audiology Education (ACAE) and/or the Council on Academic Accreditation of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA).
  • Licensure. The incumbent must hold a full, current, and unrestricted license in a State, Territory, Commonwealth, or the District of Columbia.
  • English Language Proficiency. Audiologists must be proficient in spoken and written English in accordance with chapter 2, section D, paragraph 5a, this part.
Grade Determinations: GS-13 - Audiologist - Special Clinical Program Manager
Education and Experience. Completion of 1 year of professional experience equivalent to the next lower grade level directly related to the position being filled, and must fully meet the KSAs at that level. In addition, the candidate must demonstrate the KSAs identified for the assignment demonstrate the potential to acquire the assignment specific KSAs as indicated by an asterisk ( ).
Special Clinical Program Responsibilities. Audiologists with special clinical program responsibilities, e. g. inter-disciplinary teams or highly specialized clinical programs or subunits such as hearing conservation program, tinnitus management, program management of patients with bio-electric or cochlear implants, intraoperative (surgical) monitoring, advanced vestibular assessment and rehabilitation, or advanced analysis of acoustic signal processing algorithms, in combination with professional accomplishments, performance, and qualifications, may be appointed at the GS-13 grade level. Examples of professional accomplishments may include authorship of publications; presentations at national professional meetings; or other scholarly works; or specialty or board certifications.

1. Advanced knowledge in a focused area of contemporary audiology practice;
2. Ability to articulate and communicate goals, objectives, and focused initiatives to an inter-disciplinary team, specialized clinical program, or subunit; as well as guiding the team members on work methods, practices and procedures;
3. Ability to monitor and evaluate the work of an inter-disciplinary team, specialized clinical program, or subunit; and to make adjustments in procedures or practices to accomplish the program goals; and
4. Ability to serve as coach and facilitator in coordinating program or team initiatives and consensus building activities among clinical team members with widely divergent backgrounds, interests, and points of view.

Physical Requirements:
The incumbent work is moderately. Heavy lifting (45 lbs. and over); Moderate Carrying (15-44 lbs.); Straight Pulling, Pushing, reaching above shoulder, Walking (up to 3 hours); Standing (up to 3 hours); Ability for rapid mental and muscular coordination simultaneously; Near vision correctable at 13" to 16"; Both eyes required; Depth perception; Ability to distinguish basic colors; Ability to distinguish shades of color; Hearing aid (permitted). The incumbent must possess current driver's license and drive a government vehicle in carrying out professional duties when deemed necessary at the Community Based Outpatient Clinics (CBOCs).

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
