Staff Physician (Geriatrics)

The duties will include the evaluation and treatment of acute and chronic medical problems, perform physical examinations, initiate consultations to specialty services, order diagnostic studies (e. g., laboratory tests, x-rays, electrocardiograms, etc.), perform health promotion and disease prevention, provide education and counseling to veterans and their families, recommend diagnostic and therapeutic treatment options (e. g., medications), and complete documentation in the medical record in accordance with bylaws and rules and regulations of the Medical Staff.
The VA Loma Linda Healthcare System is affiliated with multiple institutions, such as the Loma Linda University School of Medicine. Therefore, the applicant, who is eligible to apply for a faculty appointment, will teach and supervise house staff and medical students within the VA Loma Linda Healthcare System. One of the missions of the VA is its dedication to health care education. As such, the VA Loma Linda Healthcare System team strongly promotes and advocates this mission with a robust educational program with its affiliate(s).
Work Schedule: 7:30am to 4:00pm, Monday-Friday. Full-Time, (May be required to work evenings or weekends as a 24/7 Full-Time Physician)

Basic Requirements:

  • United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
  • Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine. The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed.
  • Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia.
  • Completion of residency training, or its equivalent, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification.
  • Proficiency in spoken and written English.
  • Physical requirements outlined below.
Preferred Experience: Board certification in Geriatric Medicine, as well as Internal Medicine or Family Medicine, is preferred.
Reference: VA Regulations, specifically VA Handbook 5005, Part II, Appendix G-2 Physician Qualification Standard. This can be found in the local Human Resources Office.
Physical Requirements: Heavy lifting (45 lbs. and over); Moderate Carrying (15-44 lbs.); Straight Pulling, Pushing, reaching above shoulder, Walking (up to 3 hours); Standing (up to 3 hours); Ability for rapid mental and muscular coordination simultaneously; Near vision correctable at 13" to 16"; Both eyes required; Depth perception; Ability to distinguish basic colors; Ability to distinguish shades of color; Hearing aid (permitted).

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
